For the first time in a while here in NC we are getting a really good rain, started yesterday. We are in a serious drought here. With these thoughts in mind, I thought, hmm...I need to research a way to save water and reuse. Through listening and talking to others, Rain Barrels are a great way to go. You can save money on your water bill, as well as, helping the environment and conserving water! We definitely want a Rain Barrel for next year. A little late this year, but hopefully we can get one in time for the spring!
A Rain Barrel is neat, you put it under your gutter system and it collects water from water running off your home. It has a spigot on it and you can use this water on your landscaping and gardens! It may not be drinking water, but you sure are helping the environment by recycling the water by redirecting it to your lawn and gardens!
I found this website on Rain Barrels that I found useful and you may too in my research! Rain Barrel Guide At Rain Barrel Guide you can find out the uses of the Rain Barrel, as well as, information on where to buy one! Some look very nice and would blend in with your home and not look odd.
UPDATE: After posting this, a reader posted a comment that recommends www.AquaBarrel.com!

I came across something online called the Tank Bank. It looks like a small hot water bottle, but you use it to displace water in your toilet tank. It saves quite a bit of water each time you flush and costs under $3.00. I bought two of them and have seen a drop in my water bill ever since.
Thank you for that tip! I will look into it for ours! Under $3.00! That is totally my price range for things!
The Rain Barrel Guide is a Front for one rain barrel seller. They do a great job of making you think they are showing you several different companies. The links are to their company - Clean Air - pretty sneaky bit of advertising. The best product that really works can be found at www.aquabarrel.com - check them out and make your own rain barrel with the parts kit.
Thank you so much for AquaBarrel.com's site and your info! Great stuff! I am definitely in the market! I will add this to the blog by editing it! Thanks again!
I LOVE this article! I think having rain barrels are very important. My in-laws have them at their country home. We live in the city though so it would not work for us :( Just terrific information with the aquabarrel.com site too! Much love, xoxo-pm
